Mancunian Love Affair Part I

I was in Manchester this weekend.

I have executed a well planned weekend as a surprise for the fiancé in Manchester. He is a massive Manchester United fan and I thought what is better than a surprise trip up north to see his favourite stadium (currently the biggest club stadium in the UK). Talking about it for ages, he never had the chance to book the trip.

The pendolino train by Virgin trains was easy and efficient. From London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly station, it took just over two hours and if you book in advance, you can get First Class seats for just over £30 each way, a bargain for a comfortable ride with more leg room.

When we arrived at Piccadilly station, the DoubleTree Hilton was only about 5 minutes walk away. They knew that I booked this trip for a special occasion and hence had a lot of freebies prepared (yes, I loved Hilton for that). We each received a warm cookie upon checking in (did you know that stressed spelled backwards is desserts? This was written on the cookie bag, so cute). Also, we were given a high floor room with a king deluxe bed. One thing we weren’t told, a fruit platter with champagne was delivered up to our room. What a great way to start a weekend break!

I planned our Manchester United Stadium tour in the afternoon, and was unfortunately greeted with the typical Manchester rainy weather with temperature at 0C degrees! For those of you who haven’t been to the stadium, you must go!

We ended up spending a bit of money at the Manchester United super store, it was easy to get carried away with so much red around you!  To be continued…
